What, you call that a holocaust?

President Mahmoud Amadinejad of Iran provoked fresh anger yesterday when he denied that the Holocaust took place and mockingly called for a Jewish state to be set up in Europe. His comments came weeks after he declared that Israel should be “wiped off the map”, drawing widespread international condemnation.

He said: “Some European countries insist on saying that Hitler killed millions of innocent Jews in furnaces and they insist on it to the extent that if anyone proves something contrary to that they condemn that person and throw them in jail. “Although we don’t accept this claim, if we suppose it is true, our question for the Europeans is: is the killing of innocent Jewish people by Hitler the reason for their support to the occupiers of Jerusalem?

I think President Amadinejad is misunderstood. He is not an old-school Holocaust denier who claims the reports of mass murder are false or exaggerated. He is simply disgusted by Hitler’s failure to finish the job. He thinks he can do better.

  1. “Alle, die wir sagen, sind Gebenfrieden ein Wahrscheinlichkeit.”

  2. My God, that is some terrible German above. Sorry. In English, with the attempt at German trying to make a point, is “All we are saying, is give peace a chance.”
