On the imputation of bias

I caught part of a news story that Justice Scalia had attended the Catholic Laywers Guild annual mass. The reporter implied that this was reason to think that Scalia would be biased in cases concerning the church.

I have attended mass, and sundry other religious ceremonies, Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, and (once) some type of Krishna ceremony. I don’t think that says a lot about my biases. I am more inclined to expect bias from someone who refuses in principle to attend mass, even as a guest. But that kind of bias would not be called bias.
