His Blood on my Hands
Kacy Crowley is real. This first became clear to me in her song “Badass” (CD: Tramps Like Us) when, in the second verse, she sings the word quit in 2 syllables, cracking her voice, and “it” in one and a half.
But of the 3 songs of hers I’ve heard, “Blood”, from her Moodswing CD, is the uncut diamond. She spills her soul out over an acoustic guitar, facing the nature and aftermath of Tennesse Williams-esque relationship — say Blanche and the boy collecting for the newspaper.
Wonderfully, some of the crucial lyrics are indecipherable, displaying some old school wisdom on how to sing a rock ballad.
So check out Ms. Crowley if you want some real.

Dear Kori, Sam, and Marissa,
I apologize for the delayed response to your comments; I just got wind of them this evening. I just got off the phone with our editor here and such delays won’t happen again.
Part of the reason I don’t have the lyrics to “Blood” is that I have intentionally avoided getting them. I’m 49, and remember the days when certain artists, following an old blues tradition, both garbled the lyrics as they sang them and did not reprint lyrics in liner notes. I spent much of the Seventies hunting down sheet music and digging up bootleg recordings so I could figure out what the lyrics to certain rock songs were. To cite two examples, it took me years to figure out what Mick Jagger was singing in “Street Fightin’ Man” and “Tumblin’ Dice”. And it made me realize that the extra effort was very rewarding.
I’d offer to transcribe the lyrics to “Blood” for you, but I still am not sure I’ve got them all. This, to my mind, is one of the things that makes this a great song. Is his “soul so out of training”? I’m still not sure. … [Paco pauses here to try to find the lyrics on the net, back in a flash]…
As I thought, the lyrics to “Blood” do not appear to be on the net. Because I be po’, I don’t own a copy of the album Moodswing, so I don’t know if the lyrics are in the liner notes — but I’ll betcha they’re not.
So let’s all keep workin’ to figure them out, and I’ll keep track of future comments here and work together with anybody who wants to collaborate on decifering this damn good song.
Please strike “Dear Kori” from comment 5 above and insert “Dear Kelly”.
I’ll try one mo’ time to get this right:
Comment 5 above should begin as follows:
Dear Kori, Sam, Marissa, and Kelly, ….
Responding to popular demand, Dr. Malo produces a transcription of the lyrics.
