I’m not dead

But my Powerbook is undergoing major surgery, hence the lack of posts.

Here’s the deal. The Powerbook, aka Willow, started going to sleep at random times. The screen would go dark, and the drives would spin down. Simply hitting the space bar would wake it up, but the whole thing was very annoying.

Some searching on the net and posting on various Mac forums led me to check the system logs (duh). It turned out the trackpad temperature sensor was defective, and sending emergency overtemp shutdown signals.

Fortunately, Willow is still under warranty. I took it to a local Apple store last Thursday. I called today and was told they had ordered a new logic board for it. Seems like overkill to me, at least based on my theory of the problem.

Am posting using a Windows maching I borrowed from work. Beggars can’t be choosers.
