But are they free of tranfats?
Genetically engineered foods are bad, mmmkay?
SCIENTISTS have genetically engineered a dozen cows to be free from the proteins that cause mad cow disease, a breakthrough that may make the animals immune to the brain-wasting disease. An international team of researchers from the US and Japan say they have “knocked out” the gene responsible for making the proteins, called prions.
The disease did not take hold when brain tissue from two of the genetically engineered cows was exposed to bad prions in the laboratory, they said.
Experts said the work might offer another layer of security to people concerned about eating infected beef.
“This research is a huge step forward for the use of animal biotechnology that benefits consumers,” said Barbara Glenn of the Biotechnology Industry Organisation, a Washington industry group that includes the company that sponsored the research as a member.

I sure wish somebody — and not somebody at a cocktail party I’d have to run screaming from — would inform me as to the alleged problem with genetically engineered foods. I know its very trendy to be afraid of genetically engineered foods. Somebody help me; seems to me TV commercials for diet pills that don’t work are more dangerous.
It is a religious matter. Just as Muslims and Jews are forbidden to eat pork, Gaian’s are forbidden to eat genetically engineered food. The Gaian injunction goes further in that they are not allowed to allow others to eat genetically engineered foods.
Not knowing what a Gaian was, I went to Wikipedia for a little background. Thanks for the heads-up; I’ll now add Gaians to my list of cults to avoid.
I feel so safe, warm and fuzzy knowing there are people out there who are willing to tell me what I am allowed to eat or must avoid. Especially the dirt lovers, they have such a firm hold on reality.
