Begin the Beguine all over again
(simul post)
Happy Ash Wednesday!
As an inveterate celebrator of Mardi Gras / Carnivale, and now an ex-drinker, this past Ash Wednesday was my third in a row without a hangover. And in bouncing around the net that morning — rather that wandering around cleaning up with a hair-off-the-dog drink in hand — I discovered a great bit of music I’d like to share with you.
I’m not going to spoil the surprise by describing the virtuosic version of Cole Porter’s Begin the Beguine, by “planetalk”, posted on YouTube. See, and hear, Begin the Beguine II, and
So, don’t let them begin the beguine,
Let the love that was once a fire remain an ember . . .
Let it sleep like the dead desire I only remember,
When they begin the beguine!

I feel compelled to clarify one of the links in the above post. The “Begin the Beguine” link above was originally written as just a link to the word “Beguine”. By following the “Begin the Beguine” link you will be referred to an explanation of just what the Beguine is. Once you have this information, the songs lyrics make sense.
