Honoring the dead

I wish I could be in Miami today.

  1. The terrible depravity and viciousness that invariably comes when the government becomes more supreme than the individuals it governs visited itself on the people of Cuba. The island’s loss was America’s gain. Many are lost forever but still some are with us. I think of Isidro, a boy who sat next to me in the first grade, he couldn’t speak a word of english that spring day at Gorrie Elementry in Tampa. Now, both he and his brother, Gus, are physicians in the bay area. Two small victories in what is a long war, only problem the people on the island don’t know they lost a long, long time ago.
